A super simple curry dhal recipe to go together with your roti canai or even nasi briyani!

  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 tsp of ginger
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 curry leaves stalk
  • 1?2 tbsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 potatoes
  • 1 brinjal
  • 250 g of dhal
  • 1 1?2 L of water
  • 2 dried chilli peppers
  • 1?2 tbsp of salt

  1. Sauté sliced onions over medium heat and until golden brown. Then, remove onions from pan and leave aside.
  2. With the same pan, fry chopped shallots, minced garlic, minced ginger and curry leaves until fragrant. Add tomato slices and cover pan with lid to allow tomatoes to soften.
  3. Add chopped carrots, potatoes, brinjal and carrots into the pot along with turmeric powder, dried chillies and dhal. Add water and cook over high heat.
  4. Once it boils, lower heat to the minimum and simmer for about 30 minutes or until dhal softens. Keep stirring from time to time to prevent curry from being burnt and add salt to taste.
  5. Finally, stir in fried onions and ready to serve.
